UX Designer - Orion Trading Systems
Overview
Unfortunately, due to business confidentiality reasons, I'm unable to show the bulk of the design work I completed with Orion Trading Systems. However, I'd like to share some of my research process and design methodology through this project.
Problem Statement
Trading platforms have seen a huge increase in popularity and usage, particularly over the course of the pandemic. Many users come from a more casual interest in trading than others, and the majority of applications cater to this market. For an experienced trader, much more information and power is required from the platform. and no mobile application meets this need currently.

Research
The primary component of research for this project consisted of a competitive analysis of other trading and crypto applications. The existing desktop platform would guide the feature selection, so the main research goal was to identify what features were most important for mobile users.
competitive analysis
I started by identifying the most popular mobile trading and cryptocurrency applications for Android and iOS devices, then comparing the most common functionality between the applications. I also compared some features of the Orion Desktop platform, such as multi-asset trading.
I also completed a SWOT analysis of each competitor to identify user pain points, and highlights of each application's design.
Information Architecture
From these insights I constructed a system blueprint to identify the main tasks users would be completing, to guide the feature selection for my sketches.
Design Process
I presented my research findings to the client, discussed my insights and how they would inform the rest of my design process for this project.
Created a set of sketches, followed by mid-fidelity wireframes outlining the overall layout of the application and some rough feature design. The goal here was to iron out the information architecture of the application and settle on the key features to take from the desktop application.
Finally, I iterated on a preliminary high-fidelity interactive concept design, which was then handed off to the client for further refinement.
